Parrtjima Festival in Light
large scale projection
Animation, Digitalising & Recreating Original Hand-painted Artwork, Large format video
I had the honour of creating an animation of an artwork by the late Jeannie Egan Nungarrayi, for the Parrtjima Festival in Light, held in Alice Springs, Australia. My piece was part of an animated sequence of five of Jeannie's artworks, precisely projection mapped onto poles of bamboo - an incredible structure built by H0RSE and Barefoot Sustainable Design. I love lights, festivals, nature, art, and I hold in my heart the deepest respect for our First Nations people, so this project was truely special for me.
To animate this artwork, I recreated most of the artwork digitally, staying true to the original photograph of the painting I was provided. This included giving the dots a tactile paint texture, as well as extending the artwork by painstakingly following the patterns so that certain elements of the artwork could be animated individually to fill the frame entirely.
