Disney Channel
Launch Idents
Art Direction, Visual Effects, Compositing
Foxtel launched the Foxtel Movies Disney Channel with an ident featuring a tvc originally from the UK, tailored for Australian audiences. To tailor the ident to local Australian markets, some shots needed to be replaced with Australian cities, and I was given the job of recreating the scenes with Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide.
Being a fan of Disney since I was a little girl (who is still in love with all things sparkly), I worked on these final composited shots with much care and nostalgia. I gave myself the brief of statying being true to the original TVC for a seamless transition, as well as keeping the element of magic in my version. Another priority was staying as authentic as possible to the look of the Tinkerbell sparkles.
For each of these final composites, I created sky replacements and colour grades that reflected the look of the UK TVC, added in more lights to the cities, slowed down the motion of a van across the Story Bridge, added in boats and extra water reflections for both the Brisbane and Perth shots, animated Tinkerbell trails and matching its reflection where needed, and also created light glows on areas of the image where her light would affect the surfaces that she would pass over - particularly along the water, edges of the bridge, and the path area of the Adelaide version.
It was a lot of fun travelling around Australia for 5 days with DOP Miklos Janek, shooting guerrilla style in Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide, looking for that one magic shot per city. Being only one shot, it was a perfect to work in a small team of two on location. The original Sky Disney Tinkerbell commercial was made by Golden Square
